The Founder’s Story
Linda M. Hanna, RNC, MSN/Ed., IBCLC, grew up in Queens, New York and earned her BS in Nursing from SUNY Stonybrook. She has been a registered nurse since 1978. After moving to California, she worked at Cedars-Sinai, Hollywood Presbyterian and Kaiser Permanente.
In 1996, Linda pioneered the Great Starts program at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills. This offered parents-to-be a wealth of information about preparing for childbirth as well as breastfeeding and baby care. The program was so successful, it was adopted by many other Kaiser Permanente locations throughout the US.
In 1999, Linda created a similar program for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of Los Angeles. Here she developed the Lactation Education program which provided new mothers with breastfeeding support. She also established the Lactation Education store on the 3rd floor to make it easy for new parents to acquire all of the supplies they need for successful breastfeeding.
In March of 2004, Linda opened the doors of MommyZone, a comprehensive breastfeeding center in Tarzana, CA. Here, she offered moms-to-be everything they would need to prepare for childbirth, breastfeeding and caring for their babies. The center offered private lactation consults, support groups and classes, too.
In 2010, Linda wanted to try something different. She envisioned a new approach to postpartum support and embarked on a new adventure and launched My Nursing Coach, the nation’s first mobile breastfeeding center.
